The inlet and outlet pipes 7, 711 of the U-tube pass through the boiler the inlet pipe feeding steam from the dome 6 of the boiler to the superheater and the outlet pipe supplying the superheated steam to heating irons &c. A U-shaped feedwater heater 10, is disposed between the boiler and the insulating jacket, a hand pump 13 transferring the. preheated water to the boiler as required.
