[Class 64 (i)] An economizer consists of a vertical bank of horizontal tubes with baffles 7, 8 for directing the gases across the tubes in two or more horizontal passes. By opening a damper 8b in the baflle 8 and a damper 5<a> in the outlet flue 5, soot blown from the upper tubes A is allowed to pass directly to a soot collector 13. Similarly, by opening a damper 4<b> in the bottom wall, soot blown from the tubes B is allowed to pass directly to a collector 12.
