Abstract

438,913. Water-tube steam boilers or water heaters. ELDERTON, A. J., 133, Shepherds Lane, Dartford, Kent. Oct. 31, 1934, No. 31222. [Class 123 (ii)] The furnace C of a vertical boiler has access to an axially arranged secondary chamber D, containing thimble tubes F fitted radially into the marginal plate of the chamber, through a water-cooled neck or restriction E which need not be axially disposed. The space between the inner periphery of the tube ends may be partially closed by a deflector J or by straight or curved water tubes. A superheater, feedwater heater, or air heater may be located between the tubes and an outlet flue H. The thimble and curved tubes may be of varying lengths and diameters. Hot waste gases may be admitted to the primary chamber C. Secondary air may be admitted to chamber D through a tube K when the boiler is fuel-fired and is working at a high rate of evaporation. Access to the chamber for soot-blowing is provided by a tube L.
