[Class 100 (ii)] A printing-machine particularly adapted for taking proofs of type set up in rigid curved plates of the kind described in Specification 413,270 comprises a cylinder mounted for rotation upon and along a bed supporting a sheet to be printed, the cylinder having end flanges resting upon the bed and a cylindrical portion between the flanges of diameter smaller than that of the flanges, undercut grooves being provided in the cylindrical portion in which clips are situated for clamping the curved type-bearing plate to the cylinder. The cylinder comprises end flanges 10 attached to a sleeve 11 by bolts 12, the flanges projecting beyond the sleeve and engaging strips 14 mounted parallel to the raised longitudinal edges 6 of the bed 5, so that the cylinders may be rolled along the bed by means of handles 13 when proof-printing on a sheet 28 on the bed. The curved rigid plates 25 of Specification 413,270, which are formed with grooves in which the tail pieces of dwarf type 27 may be received, are adapted to be clamped to the cylinders, which are of a curvature corresponding to that of the plate, by forming one of the flanges 10 with an undercut groove 24 in which one edge of the plate 25 engages, the other edge being held by means of a flanged member 19. The member 19 is mounted by a pin-andslot connection 21, 22 on a member 16, being pressed into contact with the plate 25 by a spring 20. The members 19, 16 are slidable in dove-tail section grooves 15 formed in the cylinders so that they can be moved into clamping engagement with the plate. The member 16 is held in adjusted position by a pin 17 which engages recesses 18 formed at the bottom of the grooves 15, or alternatively a projection on the member 16 may engage ratchet teeth at the bottom of the groove. The bed may be of such length that a munber of cylinders may be provided, those not required for use being disposed at one end of the bed and leaving a sufficient portion of the bed clear for printing purposes, in which case printing cylinders of different curvatures may be employed for use with plates of different curvatures.
