Abstract

Printing-surfaces.-In the margin space adjacent a main printing-plate mounted on a cylinder is secured a marginal printing-plate of the same length as the main plate around the cylinder whereby such space may be utilized for matter different from that carried by the main plate, or a double width page of a newspaper, or a page, may be printed without a margin space. In one form, Figs. 1 and 2, the marginal plate 6 is formed with a bevelled rib 7 which engages with similar ribs 11 on clamping blocks 9, 10 forced apart by a spring 22 to release the plate 6. Main printing-plates 3, 4 are bevelled to engage the outer edges of the ribs 11, and the plaes 3, 4, 6 are clamped on the cylinder by a screw-actuated block 18 engaging the plate 3 if two plates are used, or engaging a rod 16 if only the plate 4 is used, to force the blocks 9, 10 together. The main plates may be extended over the ribs 11 on the blocks 9, 10 and the marginal plate 6 decreased in width as shown in Fig. 4. In another form, Figs. 5 and 7, the plate 6 is provided with a central flange 25 which has widened and bevelled portions 27 adapted to engage correspondingly bevelled grooves 30 in blocks 31 when the plate is moved circumferentially of the cylinder. The blocks 31 are movable lengthwise of the cylinder to clamp the main plates.
