Abstract

445,065. Drying powdered or granular substances. SALLES, G. J., Montespan- Leondary, Haute Garonne, France. April 5, 1935, No. 10539. Convention date, April 6, 1934. [Class 34 (ii)] A tube open at both ends is provided with rotatable baffles spaced along the tube and adapted to be rotated by a blast of air which conveys the substance to be dried through the tube, the baffles acting to break up the substance into very small particles. In the construction shown, a tube 1 is provided at one end with a furnace 3 adapted to heat air drawn through the tube by a fan 4. The air carries with it granular or powdered substances fed from a hopper 11. Within the tube are baffles comprising vane wheels each mounted rotatably about a hub 15 secured to the tube by rods 16. The vane wheel is provided with inclined vanes 14 arranged to be driven by the air blast, certain vanes having extensions 17 which drive the substance being dried from one wheel to the next. The tube 1 may be disposed horizontally as shown, or obliquely or vertically, and may be given a slow rotary motion. Between the hopper 11 and the tube 1 is a wheel similar to a vane wheel and adapted to feed the substance uniformly to the tube.
