Abstract
432,999. Ball or tube mills. NEWELL & CO., Ltd., E., Station Road, WOODHOUSE, G. L., Haxey Road, and MOSS, A. H., Myrtle Villa, all in Misterton, Nottinghamshire. May 12, 1934, No. 14388. [Class 59] In a tube mill in which the material is discharged through peripheral openings in the end of the drum which are surrounded by a stationary casing communicating with a discharge shoot, a chimney or shaft is provided on the casing which draws air through a hollow trunnion and through the discharge openings to exhaust from the mill the vapour generated by the grinding. As shown the drum 10 is supported in trunnions 27, 28, the preliminary grinding compartment 19 containing balls 23 and the fine grinding compartment 20 containing rods 24. The feed is passed through the trunnion 27 by a feed-screw 38 which is extended into the hopper 37 and rotates with the drum, the feed screw may be driven independently. The lining in the chamber 19 is stepped and is of wave form in the chamber 20, the plates being staggered. A grating 17, comprising a central parallel strip and two sectors, separate the chambers 19, 20 and circumferential holes 39 in the end of the drum permit the escape of ground material to shoot 41. A casing 40 with sealing flanges 42 and a ventilator shaft 43 enclose the holes 39 and a dust-tight casing 50 encloses the driving wheel 48. Air enters the trunnion 28 through a grating 44 and is discharged through the openings 39 to shaft 43. The discharge end of the chamber 20 may be enclosed by a screen.
