Abstract

231,949. Wake, J. F. Jan. 14, 1924. Rotary apparatus; air and gases, controlling direction of flow of.-Rotary apparatus for drying road materials &c. comprises an outer casing supported upon rollers and a central chamber, the space between the casing and the chamber being divided into longitudinal compartments which communicate with a casing o connected to a furnace. The materials pass from the hopper m through the control chamber h, and return through the longitudinal compartments i and discharge into the casing o, while -the heating medium is forced by the fan s into the casing and through the longitudinal compartments and the chamber to the flue v in countercurrent to the material. In a modification, the central and longitudinal compartments are of square cross section. In another arrangement, the outer casing and the central chamber are hexagonal in shape. Means such as vanes or screws may be provided for propelling the material through the compartments.
