Abstract

444,096. Wringers. RYCKMAN, N. E., 77, Niagara Street, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. June 28, 1935, No. 18570. [Class 138 (ii)] Pressure is applied to the rollers of a wringer by a cam 46 acting on a spring 52 which engages the bearing blocks 53, 54 of the upper roller which are slidably mounted on rods 57 rising from the bearing blocks of the lower roller. When the pressure is released, the upper roller is caused to rise by springs 59A surrounding the rods 57. The shaft 37 on which the cam is secured is rotated from an external handle 32 on a shaft 33 having a spur gear 35 engaging a segment gear 36 loose on the shaft 37 and provided with lugs which engage, with 180‹ lost motion, a driving lug 40 fast on the shaft 37. The bearing block 54 engages a spring-pressed triangular detent member 66 pivoted in a pivoted yoke 63 which actuates a clutch 62 slidably mounted on the shaft of the lower roller whereby, as the pressure is released by rotation of the lever 32, the drive to the lower roller shaft is simultaneously and automatically broken. The direction of rotation is controlled by a lever 75 which operates a slidable sleeve 74 to engage one or other of the bevel wheels 71, 72 with the horizontal bevel wheel 69. The movement of the sleeve 74 also actuates a clutch mechanism to swing the water deflecting tray in the appropriate direction and to permit the positioning of one of a pair of guard plates extending along the front of the rollers and cause the remote guard plate of the pair to swing upwardly away from the rollers. The looking arm 102 for securing the wringer head to the standard 31 rising from the washing-machine can be released only when the lever 75 is in neutral position with the drive from the bevel wheels 71, 72 disconnected.
