Abstract
525,096. Wringers. LOVELL MANUFACTURING CO. Feb. 16, 1939, No. 5070. Convention date, Feb. 16, 1938. [Class 138 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIV] In a wringer comprising rolls 4, 5 mounted in a frame comprising a base 1, side stiles 2 and top bar 3, the roll 4 is driven by a vertical shaft 19 through a shaft 24 geared thereto, and a friction clutch comprising plates 30, 31, secured respectively to the adjacent ends of the shaft 24 and the shaft 8 of the roll 4. The shaft 24 and clutch 30, 31 are located within a casing 15 which is provided with an inwardly-projecting supporting rib 34 for an annularly-flanged bracket 35 secured to the wringer, the rib 34 and bracket 35 being connected together in a yielding manner by bolts 36 and associated springs 37. The arrangement is such that a movement of the wringer frame in any direction, due, for example, to obstruction of the rolls 4, 5 by an operator, will effect a yielding of the connection 34.... 37 and disengagement of the clutch 30, 31. A friction disc 38 is preferably interposed between the clutch plates 30, 31. As shown, the shaft 19, which is rotatably mounted in a wringer supporting post 13, is coupled to the shaft 24 through a bevel gear 22 and gears 23, 23 on the two shafts respectively, the gears 23 being loose on the shaft 24 and provided with detents 25 for engagement by corresponding detents on a sliding clutch member 27 which is splined on said shaft and is actuated by a handle 28b having means 28c for locking it in a forward, reverse or neutral position.
