Abstract
443,980. Stanchions for barriers &c. STEELWAY, Ltd., and GOODYEAR, C. W., Monmore Green, Wolverhampton. Oct. 18, 1934, Nos. 29806/34 and 852/35. [Class 45] A removable stanchion, particularly for forming part of a barrier at a pavement edge, comprises a metal tube A within the lower end of which is welded a rod a having a collar a<1> against which the end of the tube abuts. The rod is bored to receive a cross-piece forming projecting studs a<3> which engage, in bayonet-joint fashion, within grooves b, b<1> in a socket B set in the ground or concrete. The socket may have local thickening in the neighbourhood of the grooves. When stanchions are to be connected by chains or bars, the connections with the stanchions are in such positions that the stanchions are prevented from turning to an unlocked position. In a modification, the grooves may consist of two vertical grooves b<7>, Fig. 10, angularly displaced and coupled by a circumferential groove b<1>. The collar on the stanchion may be positively secured to the socket, when in locked position, by screws having heads requiring the use of a specially shaped spanner. The socket may have a lower flange b<4>, Fig. 6, connected by webs b<5> to the body of the socket to provide a non-rotatable hold for the socket when in the ground &c.
