457,629. Joint - making packing. BUDERUS'SCHE EISENWERKE, 54, Sophienstrasse, Wetzlar, Germany. Jan. 23, 1936, Nos. 2227, 2228, and 2229. Convention dates, Jan. 23, 1935, May 20, 1935, and May 21, 1935. [Class 122 (iii)] [See also Group XXVIII] A packing sleeve 3 has a hook portion 6 of hard material which engages the end of the spigot 1, and a softer resilient portion 4 of enlarged cross-section which is deformed and compressed between the socket and spigot, when the latter is pushed into the socket. The hook portion may have metal reinforcement. In a modification, the periphery of the sleeve slopes more abruptly towards the hook end, and the length of the sleeve from the centre of the enlargement to the outer end is about a quarter of the depth of the socket. In a further modification, the hook portion 6 engages the front of the socket, and the enlargement 4 is compressed in a groove 8, Fig. 5, in the socket.
