Abstract

443,188. Elastic threads. PICKLES, R., Ashmeade, Padiham Road, Burnley, and PICKLES, J., Fence House, Fence, near Burnley. Sept. 14, 1935, No. 25551. [Classes 120 (ii) and 120 (iii)] An elastic thread, formed of one or more tensioned rubber filaments combined with one or more non- extensible threads, is made by ballooning the thread as it is combined with the filament so that the parallel formation is slightly disarranged and a slight binding effect produced, the combined filament and thread being subsequently twisted once then twisted in pairs in the opposite direction. As shown, the rubber filament A is drawn from a bobbin B resting on a pair of rollers C driven through a variable speed gear and passes with the threads F, G, drawn from cones D, E, over a tension roller H and through a traversing guide J to the bobbin K on which they are wound; the bobbin K is driven through change speed gearing and the speeds of the bobbin B, K can be varied to adjust the stretch imparted to the filament and control the amount wound on the bobbin K. The combined thread on the bobbin K is then twisted in a suitable doubling frame, preferably of the wet type, and finally twisted in pairs in the opposite direction on a second doubling frame.
