Abstract

Basic dyes, dyeing with.--Dyeing with basic dyestuffs is carried out in presence of a substance giving rise to cations capable of reducing the surface tension, e.g. a quaternary ammonium compound carrying an aliphatic residue containing at least 8 carbon atoms, and a smaller quantity of a substance giving rise to anions capable of reducing the surface tension, e.g. a salt of a sulphuric acid alkyl ester containing an aliphatic residue having at least 8 carbon atoms. Specified substances giving rise to the desired cations are dodecylpyridinium sulphate, its homologues and substitution products, and the corresponding halogenides, ammonium compounds derived from diamines substituted by fatty acid or alkyl residues containing at least 8 carbon atoms, and triethylcetylammonium iodide. In an example, a viscose artificial silk, mordanted with "Katanol" (Registered Trade Mark) ON is dyed by treatment for \ba1/2\be hour in a bath at 70 DEG C. containing Malachite green, 1 gram per litre of dodecylpyridinium sulphate and 0,2--0,8 grams per litre of the sodium salt of laurylsulphuric acid ester. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also (1) the use of the quinoline and isoquinoline compounds corresponding to the above pyridine compounds, (2) the use of the compounds containing unsaturated high molecular aliphatic residues, e.g. octodecenyl or undecenyl residues, in place of the saturated residues (3) the use of triethylcetylammonium bromide, (4) the application of the process to printing. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
