Abstract
440,659. Controlling aircraft. MAZZINI, F., 42, Via Andrea Doria, Milan, Italy. July 3, 1934, Nos. 19625 and 19626. Convention dates, July 5, 1933 and March 10, 1934. [Class 4] A valve in the wing of an aeroplane for controlling the upward flow of air through a passage leading from the under surface to the upper surface of the wing is arranged, in both open and closed positions, to occupy substantially the height of the passage and when in the open position presents a wholly unobstructed duct, preferably shaped as a Venturi tube converging upwardly and curving rearwardly, and adapted to guide the stream of air without causing sudden changes of section and direction. The valve 3<a>, Fig. 2, may be cylindrical with a parallel or converging slot 6 or it may comprise a tube 3b, Fig. 4, with or without a lip 8 and pivoted to the upper or lower end, or it may comprise a curved plate 3, Fig. 11, with or without a lip 5 and pivoted at the upper or lower end.
