Abstract

440,499. Cable drums. OKONITECALLENDER CABLE CO., Inc., 730, 21st Avenue, Paterson, New Jersey, U.S.A. July 19, 1934, No. 21119. Convention date, July 19, 1933. [Class 99 (ii)] [See also Group XXXVI] An unsheathed impregnated cable 26, Fig. 1, is transported on a drum 1 filled with insulating liquid 27 and having a removable cover member 24 which is secured to the rims of the end members 23 of the drum in a fluid-tight manner. The drum is mounted on an axle 29 provided with wheels 30 of larger diameter than the drum. The right hand wheel is rigidly fixed to the axle, but the left hand one is loose on the axle so that the wheels and shaft may be readily detached from the drum when desired. As shown in Fig. 3 the end members 31 of the drum have flanged rims 32 and the cover member 33 comprises two semi-cylindrical plates which are secured together by bolts 35. A fluid-tight joint between the cover 33 and the rims 32 is obtained by compressing packing 40 between the edges of the cover member and packing rings 36 which embrace the rims 32 and which are drawn together by bolts 41. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, the cable may be coiled on an open drum 8, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), which is rotatably mounted in an oil-filled closed cylindrical drum 4. Means may be provided exteriorly of the drum 4 for rotating the drum 8. This subject-matter does not appear in Specification as accepted.
