Abstract

286,859. Henley's Telegraph Works Co., Ltd., W. T., and Jackson, W. C. Feb. 18, 1927. Reels and reelcarriages. - A large drum for heavy electric cable &c. comprises a drum proper on which the cable &c. is wound and an outer casing comprising end discs and lagging within which the drum is rotatably mounted. The drum proper comprises end discs a, bearings b and a hollow cylindrical core c, and the casing comprises end cheeks d, having stub axles e and lagging f consisting of wooden battens hinged together by flexible metal or the like, bars g provided with nuts h serving to hold the ends in position, a pulley j and brakelever m being mounted on one of these bars to facilitate unwinding. The parts are held immovable during transit by distance pieces p, bolts n and nuts o. In modified forms one or both of the stub axles may be rotatable and adapted to receive a handle so that the drum may be rotated, the bearings of both the drum and casing may be hollow to receive an axle which may project to take a handle. The end cheeks may be divided in halves or quadrants arranged to fold flat over one another.
