Cable joints.-An apparatus for winding paper tape over a cable joint comprises a frame that carries rolls of tape and can be mounted to surround the joint and to be rotated about the cable. Divided sleeves 2 are applied to the cable and carry divided end-plates 3 connected together by tie-bolts 4 and rods 5 that carry rolls 9 of tape positioned by spacers 6 and springs 7 adjacent rolls being oppositely wound so that the pressure of the springs 7 applies tension to the paper. Additional tension is obtained if the tapes are passed round the tie-bolts 4. The rolls on one rod 5 are staggered with respect to those on another causing the tapes to overlap the joints of the layer below. The frame is turned by handles 8. The covering is finished off by successively tearing off the tapes from the ends towards the centre until the covering conforms to the shape of a. template. It is enclosed in a metal sheath filled with insulating composition.
