Cable couplings.-Joints in high tension cables are insulated by a closely wound roll of insulating material such as oiled paper formed from a gradually tapering sheet. The space between the ends of the trimmed cable insulation is first filled in a suitable manner, as by a spiral winding of narrow insulating tape and the tapered strip, preferably in the form of a roll with the narrow end inside, is wound about the joint. After tight winding the roll is further tightened by twisting it about the joint. A suitable taper is 1 in 300.
