440,377. Change-speed chain gearing. ENFIELD CYCLE CO., Ltd., and SMITH, F. W., Hewell Road, Redditch, Worcestershire. July 20, 1934, No. 21231. [Class 80 (ii)] [See also Group XXXI] Change-speed gearing for tandem cycles &c. comprises a driving chain b, Fig. 1, which passes over and under a pair of jockey sprockets c<1>, c<2> and is displaceable laterally therewith for selective engagement with driven sprockets a<1>, a<2>, a<3>, Fig. 2, of different sizes. The jockey sprockets c<1>, c<2> are carried on the two arms of a bell-crank lever d which is slidable on a fixed transverse pivot spindle e under control from a pivoted striking fork h in turn operated through a Bowden cable or like control i<1>, i<2>. A tension spring j acting on the lever d maintains the chain tension elastically.
