433,515. Variable-speed chain gearing. FICHTEL & SACHS AKT.-GES., Schweinfurt, Germany. Jan. 26, 1935, No. 2681. Convention date, Jan. 27, 1934. [Class 80 (ii)] [See also Group XXXI] In change-speed driving - mechanism for cycles &c. of the type in which the chain 6 is adapted to be engaged selectively with sprockets 7, 8, 9, of different sizes by means of a jockey sprocket 10, which is displaceable axially by means of a control rod or cable 41 and is mounted on a spring-loaded chaintensioning arm 13, a pivot bolt 55, Fig. 2, for the tensioning arm 13 is rigidly mounted on a lug or plate 53 formed on or secured to the fork end 50 and is adapted at its end to form a guide for a flexible part (chain &c.), 33 of the control transmission. For tensioning the chain, the arm 13 is acted upon by a spring 58 coiled around a drum 56 surrounding the bolt 55. The jockey sprocket 10 is mounted on a spring-controlled sleeve 26 slidable on a tubular member 27 fixed to the arm 13. The actuating-chain 33 may be engaged with a stop 59 when the rod 41 is disconnected for repairs &c. The driving-chain 6 is guided by a forked member 18 secured to the chain stay 40, and by a guide 36 near the jockey sprocket 10.
