Abstract
439,243. Obtaining high vacua. ASTRON AKT.-GES., Krierns, near Lucerne, Switzerland, and TRENZEN, C., Venlo, Holland. May 28, 1934, No. 15847. Convention date, Dec. 4, 1933. [Class 8 (i)] [See also Group XI] A metal carbonyl is introduced into a partially evacuated lamp bulb or other vessel, and the vessel is heated, decomposing the carbonyl, which combines with residual gases and enables them to be extracted by the vacuum pump. The metal of the carbonyl may be deposited as a mirror in the vessel. Carbonyl of iron, nickel, molybdenum or tungsten, or a mixture of them may be employed. Phosphorus solution may be used in conjunction with the carbonyl as a getter. The lamp may have a double spiral filament forming a surface for the getter.
