Abstract

438,860. Lenses. ZEISS, C., [Firm of], Carl-Zeiss-Strasse, Jena, Germany. July 22, 1935, No. 20736. Convention date, Aug. 3, 1934. [Class 97 (i)] A microscope objective designed to have a flat field consists of two convergent groups of lenses, the front group I..IV producing a virtual image of the observed object and having a positive Petzval sum, and the rear group V .. VIII comprising a divergent member VI between two convergent members V, VII and having a negative Petzval sum. The front group effects # to 1/@3 of the total magnification of the objective. Data are given for the example shown which is an achromatic objective with a focal length of 5 mm., and for a second example consisting of an achromatic immersion objective with a focal length of 2À055 mm.
