Class 97(1) A microscope objective for 5 to 20 fold magnifications having a front meniscus concave to the objective, collecting components, and a second meniscus, the centre thickness of each meniscus being greater than half the radius of curvature of the dispensing outer surface of the respective meniscus, is characterized in that the second meniscus, which may be simple or compound, lies between the front and rear components of the system, is concave towards the object, and the ratio of its focal length to that of the whole objective is between 2 and 4. Optical data are given for one example of the objective shown.
