Abstract

755,955. Microscope objectives. COOKE, TROUGHTON & SIMMS, Ltd. Sept. 7, 1954 [Sept. 7, 1953], No. 24720/53. Class 97 (1). A microscope objective comprises a front collective lens followed by a thick meniscus lens of negative Petzval sum which balances, or nearly balances, the positive Petzval sum of all other components of the objective. Numerical data are given for one example of the immersion objective shown in which the front collective lens 14 and the thick meniscus lens 15 are cemented together. Data are also given for one example of a dry objective in which the components 10-13 are omitted and the lenses 14 and 15 are separated by an air-space.
