Abstract

438,144. Vehicle doors ; door-operating means. FISHER, G. L., 561, Old Kent Road, London. May 15, 1934, No. 14686. [Class 108 (i)] [See also Group XXV] In road vehicles having tailboards hinged at the upper edge the hinge is mounted so that the tailboard is capable of sliding upwardly in order to clear the load which is being discharged, the tailboard being swung outwardly by the load if necessary. The tailboard comprises upper and lower positions 11, 1 hinged together so that the lower portion 1 constitutes the tailboard proper. The upper portion 11 is provided at each side with a plate 4 carrying rollers 5 adapted to be guided vertically in channels 2 secured to the outside of the body. An endless chain &c. 6 is arranged at each side of the vehicle for raising and lowering the tailboard and the lower portion 1 is provided with an arm 8 which when it con. tacts with a stop 9 causes the lower portion 1 to swing outwardly. The portion 1 is provided with a projection 17 adapted to enter an opening in an angle member in order to latch it in the closed position, the portion being brought into vertical position to engage the latch by means of the arm encountering a stop 10. In another form the arm 8 may be connected by a link 12 to the body, the lower end of the link having a certain amount of lost motion to ensure disengagement of the latching means before the lower portion is swung outwardly. The vehicle may be provided with a movable floor and movable partition for discharging the load.
