Abstract

1332739 Vehicle doors SOC ANON DE VEHICULES INDUSTRIELS ET D'EQUIPEMENTS MECANIQUES 19 April 1971 [22 April 1970] 26170/71 Headings B7B and B7J An external sliding door of a vehicle is so mounted on the vehicle that the lower portion of the door swings outwardly during opening. The door 1 is mounted at its top edge by rollers (3) (Fig. 1, not shown) which engage a rail (4) on the vehicle body and at its lower edge by a roller 6 which is mounted on a horizontal arm 7 pivoted to the vehicle body and which engages a rail 5 having an outwardly curved portion 5a attached to the door. The arm 7, pivoted at 8 to a body bracket 9, carries stops 16, 17 and the door carries an abutment pin 14. During initial opening the door is moved outwardly as roller 6 moves over the curved portion 5a; when the pin 14 contacts stop 16 the arm 7 is pivoted to swing. the lower portion of the door even further outwardly. A spring 10 connected at 11 and 12 respectively to the arm 7 and bracket 9 urges the arm to its end positions on either side of an axis defined by pins 8 and 12. During closing pin 14 abuts stop 17 and arm 7 is pivoted to swing the door inwardly. In another embodiment, Fig. 8, a horizontally pivoted body mounted lever 20 carries a pad 22 which engages a door mounted rail 23 which has an upswept ramp portion (23a, Fig. 6, not shown) towards its rear edge. As the door is opened the pad traverses the ramp and is pivoted downwardly and outwardly to swing the lower portion of the door away from the vehicle. A spring 29 connected between the lever 20 and its body moonting bracket acts as in the first embodiment.
