I claim:
l. In combination, a body side wall having a pair of spaced window openings with an intervening closed wall portion therebetween, a transom assembly lxedly mounted over one of the openings, a slidable sashassembly for closing the other opening and slidable into overlapping relation with the xed transom assembly, and laterallylmounted regulator mechanism having a lifty lever projecting into the vclosed Wall space be-- tween the window openings and out of'alignment with the vision area of both lwindows when the slidingwindow is in its normally closed position for sliding engagement withthe'leadingedge of the sliding window. l
2. In an arrangement' of the character described, a pair of vertically .spaced window openings, a transom assembly xed in theA upper opening, a trim panel having an opening aligned with the transom assembly andaffordinga window well, a vertically slidable window assembly for closing the loweropening and movable upwardly from closed position and into said well in overlapping relation with the fixed transom, overhead operating `mechanism offset laterally and outside the range of vision through both openings, and a lift lever operatively Vconnecting said mechanism with the top of the slidable window and projecting inwardly into the well behindv` the panel and being arranged to swing from a normally concealed and closed window positiorrl across the line of vision through the transom when the window is slid toward and from closed position. v
3. In combination, a vehicle body side wall having a window opening, an elevating window in the opening, an interior trim panel cooperating with the side wall to aord a window receiving well above the Window opening, overhead operating mechanism oiset to one side of the window opening and having a laterally extending lift lever engaging the top of the window within the Well, said trim .panel and body wall having registering transom openings therein spaced above the window opening and so arranged that the window lift lever at its lower limit is wholly concealed by and between the trim panel and the wall and is partially exposed at the registering transom openings for a portion of its travel between opposite limits, and a window fixedly mounted in one of the transom openings.
4. In combination, an elevating window for an opening in a side wall, an interior trim panel cooperating with the wall to afford a window well above said opening and having a transom window opening in registry With a transom window in the side Wall spaced above said side wall opening, and a window lift lever located in the well and'positioned below and out of the range of vision through said transom window when the sliding window is closed.
5. In combination, a body side wall having a pair of window posts and a window opening between the posts, an interior trim panel located above the window opening .in spaced parallel relation with a portion of the body side wall with.
which it cooperates'to provide awindow well and formed with a transom opening in registry with a side wall transom window, a window liftlever arranged at its lower limit to'be concealed within the well below said transom opening, a fulcrum mounting for the lever on one of said postsin a horizontal plane substantially intersecting the transom opening and lever operating mechanism also mounted on the post and operableto cause the lever to enter and traverse the transom opening area. In a passenger coach, a body side wall having a pair of vertically spaced window openings arranged at eye levels, respectively, of seated Ipassengers and standees, a' sliding window normally closing the lower opening and slidable upwardly across and in overlapping relation to the standee window opening, a laterally projecting lift lever engaging the lift rail at the top of the window and normally positioned beside the side wall in thespace between the window openings and out of the range of vision through both openings, and means pivotally mounting the lever at a point horizontally between the top and bottom window
