Abstract

438,113. Changing signs. BEST, J. G., 90, Dunvegan Road, Toronto, Canada. April 3, 1934, No. 9978. [Class 3 (i)] In signs delineated in complementary colours and illuminated in succession by light rays of corresponding colours, the rate of change of illumination is such that persistence of vision is effective to the extent that retinal impressions of each part of the sign when illuminated by light of the colour of that part are retained until the next recurring illumination of the sign with light of that colour. The apparatus may comprise one or more multi-colour light filters in the form of cylinders 5 rotated by a motor 4. Light from a lamp 3 within the cylinder passes out of a casing 2 through an opening 2x to impinge on the sign facia 1, which may be opaque, transparent, or translucent. When more than one cylinder 5 are employed, they revolve at different speeds. A suitable speed for a single two-colour cylinder is stated to be sixteen revolutions per second. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 237,006, [Class 3 (i)].
