Abstract

437,611. Electrically-igniting gas burners. HISCOX, L. T., 4, Alpha Road, Hutton, Essex. May 1, 1934, No. 13100. [Class 75 (iii)] In means for igniting a gas burner on opening the gas cock, an arm 4 on the latter is adapted to press inwardly the plunger 12 of a separate switch 6 and thereby close the primary and secondary circuits of an induction coil connected with a spark gap adjacent the burner, the switch being opened by a spring 8 on releasing the cock. The primary circuit is closed by the head of the metal plunger 12 contacting with a terminal P, which is thereby earthed, and the secondary circuit by a metal disc 10 bridging terminals S, S<1>. A single induction coil may be employed to operate a gas cooker and a gas copper or water heater, the switches being connected in parallel. The spark gap may be formed by two electrodes secured to the frame of the cooker or by one electrode co-operating with a peg on the burner. The Provisional Specification describes also a switch for closing the primary circuit of the coil, the secondary winding of which is connected with the spark-gap electrodes, the spring blades of the switch being adapted to turn the cock back sufficiently to open the circuit.
