Abstract
431,907. Control systems for welding- arcs. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Dec. 18, 1934, No. 36287. Convention date, Dec. 23, 1933. [Class 38 (iv)] If the welding-arc exceeds a predetermined length the contact pointer 8 moves back to the contact segment 9 and closes a circuit through the coil 14 with consequent opening of the switch 5 in the supply circuit. The pointer is controlled by the coil 7 in accordance with the arc voltage or current. The switch 5 is biassed to the closed position by the spring 16 and is retained in this position by a latch 17. When the electrode 2 is put in contact with the work 1 to strike the arc the latch is lifted after a timelag by coil 18 the pointer 8 having meanwhile travelled from a to the space between the contact segment 9 and c.
