467,363. Heating and igniting by electric arcs. RAO, P. S. April 8, 1936, No. 10341. Convention date, April 23, 1935. [Classes 39 (iii) and 75 (iii)] A portable device for use as an igniter or for melting wax or solder, or heating liquids comprises coaxial electrodes 6, 7, arranged between the polepieces of an electromagnet energized by a coil 24, which acts on a rod 27, connected to the electrode 6 to move it to strike the arc. A push button switch may be provided so that the arc is only maintained while the switch is manually held in the closed position. The electrodes may be of copper or carbon. A resistance in series with the coil 24 has a central tapping to enable half the resistance to be cut out if an alternating current is used. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes a device in which separation of the electrodes is effected by a spring against the action of which the electrodes may be manually brought into contact. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
