Abstract
437,079. Saddle supports. BLAKOE, R., Flat 4, Latymer Court, Hammersmith Road, London. Jan. 25, 1935, No. 2476. [Class 136 (iii)] In a saddle pillar for cycles, of the type adapted to be raised and lowered by the operation of a lever &c. so as to facilitate stopping in traffic &c., the saddle pillar is positively raised by a flexible cable, which coacts with the lower end of the pillar and has one end attached to the control lever, the lever when operated positively raising the saddle or permitting it to be lowered by the weight of the rider. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the saddle pillar 2, slidably mounted in the frame seattube 1, is provided at its lower end with a pulley 5 to receive a cable 11, which is fixed at one end to a member 8 clamped to the frame lug 7 and passes along grooves 3 in the pillar 2 and over a pulley 14 to an adjustable strainer 15 connected by a cable 16 to a lever 19, which is held in adjusted position by means of an apertured quadrant 25 and a catch 23 controlled by a finger grip 22. Rotation of the pillar 2 is prevented by the engagement of one or a pair of projections on the member 8 with one or both of the grooves 3. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the end of the cable 11 is anchored at 32 to the lower end of the pillar 2.
