Abstract

436,473. Sliding window &c. holders. SLEIGH, H. L., CHESTON, A. S., and STUART, F. J., Widney Works, Bagot Street, Birmingham. July 6, 1934, No. 19853. [Class 44] In holding devices for sliding windows for vehicles, relative movement is prevented between the two co-operating members of the device in a direction parallel with the plane of the window, to minimize wear, to ensure efficient operation of the holding means notwithstanding slight inaccuracy of fit in the usual guide channels, and to allow the holding means to be fitted during manufacture of the sliding window member. In Figs. 1, 4, the sliding window 1 has a frame the side members 2 of which have a channel extension 3 slidably embracing rack bars 6 with recesses 9. The bars 6 thus partake of lateral movements of window 1. The window is retained in adjusted position along the bars by a pair of oppositely directed bolts 10, housed in a part 11 of the upper horizontal frame member and projected outwardly into engagement with recesses 9 by a spring 14 disposed between operating finger-pieces 13 on the inner ends of the bolts. The rack bars are supported on the fixed guide channels 4 by pins 8 passing freely through slots 7 in the bars, or by pivots or other means allowing limited lateral movement of the bars. In alternative forms the rack &c. may be replaced by a chain and sprocket wheel. Figs. 7, 8 show the sprocket wheel 16 mounted on the sliding window 1. Engagement with chain 6 prevents lateral relative movement between the parts 1, 6, 16. The chain is supported by and has limited sliding movement on a pin 8 fixedly mounted on guide frame 5. In a modification the sprocket is carried by frame 5 and the chain is slidably supported on a pin carried by the frame of the sliding window.
