Abstract

201,909. Soc. HÚra, (Assignees of Klein, G.). Aug. 5, 1922, [Convention date]. Sliding window opening and closing apparatus; vehicle window opening and closing apparatus.- In operating mechanism for vehicle &c. windows consisting of an endless chain b, Fig. 1, passing over upper and lower sprocket wheels c, d, a rod a' has mounted thereon in a displaceable manner a roller a<3> adapted to engage a groove in a member a<2>, Figs. 1 and 5, secured to the window. The roller a<3> is secured on the rod a<4> bv means of a set-screw a<5>, and, in order to ensure close contact with the grooved member a<2>, a spring pressure member is provided on the rod. When the window reaches its closed position it is forced over the rail at the bottom of the window opening by reason of a bend in the slotted member a<2>. Another method of causing this transverse movement is shown in Figs. 10 and 11, wherein the roller is provided with a helical groove h adapted to be engaged by a pin on a button i formed with a groove i<1> working in the slot a<2>. In this case, when the window is nearly closed, the link e reaches the sprocket-wheel c and the roller begins to turn, which movement causes the button i to move along the roller and push the sash over the rail. The chain b is tensioned by a member b<1> carried by a pivotally mounted and spring-pressed arm b<3>. For locking the window in any position the upper sprocket wheel is provided with a central portion which can only be operated by the handle. The wheel d is provided with a balancing spiral spring.
