Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, June 25, 1934]. [Class 40 (v)] The gain of a carrier frequency amplifier is controlled by the amplitude of a harmonic of the carrier. In one embodiment the second harmonic is selected from a common anode coil P of a push-pull amplifier A2, A<1>2 by a band pass filter P, S, C, rectified at G and applied to vary the grid bias of a preceding amplifier A1. In a modification, a detector stage comprises two valves with push-pull connected grids and parallel anodes, the harmonic being selected from the anode circuit. Harmonics other than the second may be used and the gain control may be applied to stages preceding and following that from which the harmonic is derived.
