Abstract
468,172. Wireless receiving systems. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Oct. 19,1936, No. 28430. Convention date, Oct. 17, 1935. [Class 40 (v)] In a method of converting frequency modulation to amplitude modulation, use is made of reactive circuits so tuned that the substantially rectilinear portions of their resonance curves intersect at the carrier wave frequency of the modulated wave to be handled. The signal is passed by normal receiving apparatus 2, 4, Fig. 1, through an amplitude limiter 6 and is applied in parallel to the control grids of the amplifying valves 8, 10 in whose anode circuits are circuits 12 tuned just below and 14 tuned just above the lowest and highest frequencies present in the modulated wave. Similarly circuit 16 resonates above the highest and 18 below the lowest frequency. The outputfrequency response from circuits 16, 18 is shown at A, B in Fig. 2 ; FC being the mean carrier frequency. The signals applied to the grids of the detectors 20, 22 are thus amplitude modulated, the outputs being combined in push-pull in T, amplitude and second harmonic distortion being balanced out. If switch RS is operated and the outputs are combined in parallel, amplitude modulation is received and frequency modulation balanced out.
