Abstract
434,604. Screw propellers. JONES, W. H., 15, Peny-Fal Road, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire. March 5,1934, No. 7024. [Class 114] An automatically variable pitch screw propeller has the blades mounted on an axis inclined forwardly and the centres of pressure and centres of gravity of each blade are displaced from the longitudinal axis of the blade toward the trailing edge. Blades 1 are mounted in sockets 4 on the boss so that they have an inclination forwardly and under the disposition of the centres of gravity and centres of pressure aft of that axis, the blades take up automatically a given pitch position. The maximum pitch position is limited by a stop constituted by a member 10 against which abuts the ball end 9 of an arm 7 secured to a sleeve 15 on the blade root. This abutment or stop is held by a light spring 12, but the rod 11 carrying the stop may be adjusted manually. For this purpose a second rod 13 is provided, and between it and the rod 11 are a number of balls 14, so that the second rod need not partake of the rotary motion of the propeller.
