388,479. Air-screws. ECLIPSE AVIATION CORPORATION, 545, North Arlington Avenue, East Orange, New Jersey, U.S.A. Oct. 22, 1931, No. 29352. Convention date, Oct. 27, 1930. [Class 114.] In a variable-pitch propeller of the kind wherein the hub is slidable on, but rotatable with the driving shaft cam mechanism is provided for varying the pitch of the blades according to the longitudinal movement of the hub. The cam mechanism is arranged so as to nullify the pitch changing effect of the torsional couple on the propeller blades. Each blade 8 is provided with eccentric pin 27 out of line with its own axis and this pin through the intermediary of a roller bearing moves in a slot in a cam member 28 disposed with its axis out of line with the fore and aft axis of the driving shaft. This cam is adjustably mounted within the main boss member. The boss 15 is adapted to slide through the intermediary ball members 16 on a central hub 10 which is keyed to the driving shaft 9. Longitudinal movement of the hub is restrained by springs 32 placed between an abutment plate 33 and the blade sockets 17. To assist in neutralizing the torsional couple, the ring 23 used for securing to two half-root sockets 18 is provided with counterweights 30.
