Abstract

434,533. Golf clubs. MACALLUM, F., and BAIN, M. S., 307, Washwood Heath Road, Birmingham. March 7, 1934, No. 7218. [Class 132 (ii)] A golf club having a tubular metal shaft 14 secured to the socket 11 of the club head is provided with a torsion member 12 extending longitudinally within the shaft and secured at two spaced positions to the socket and shaft respectively. The torsion member is formed as a solid rod of a light resilient alloy and is screwed into the lower end of the socket 11 and locked by a rivet 13. The reduced upper end of the torsion member enters a plug 15 of wood or metal and is secured to the plug and shaft by a rivet 18. The shaft is secured within the socket by brazing and/or rivets. Contact between the shaft and torsion member is prevented by a packing of aerated rubber 22, or by rubber or other rings spaced within the shaft.
