[Class 132 (ii).] A golf club comprises a head having an extension for connection to the shaft, a tubularmetallic torsion absorbing member arranged coaxially with and connected at its lower end to the extension, and a hollow metal shaft connected to the upper part of the tubular torsion member. As shown, the head 6 has an extension 7, the bottom 8 of the socket of which is threaded to receive the lower end of a metallic torsion sleeve 9, which is attached at its upper end by a rivet 10 to a hollow metal shaft 11. The torsion sleeve 9 has longitudinal slots 12. A rubber sleeve 15 surrounding the sleeve 9 is located in a recess 14 in the socket 7. In a modification the bore of the socket may be tapered in a downward direction, and the torsion sleeve fixed in the lower end thereof by a rivet. The metal shaft is threaded to engage the threaded upper end of the torsion sleeve, and a rubber cushioning sleeve is pro-- vided as described. In another modification the extension of the head is solid, and the torsion sleeve is riveted at its lower end over the upper end of the extension, which is reduced in diameter. The metal shaft surrounds the torsion sleeve, and is riveted to the upper end thereof. In a further modification, the torsion sleeve may have screw-thread connection with both shaft and socket. In a still further modification the torsion sleeve may extend inside and be riveted in the socket, and the shaft may extend over the projecting part of the sleeve and abutting the end of the socket. The shaft is riveted to the upper end of the sleeve.
