Abstract

371,974. Golfclubs. RENWICK, W. S., 67, Sterndale Road, West Kensington, and JOHNSTON, R. H., 15, King Street, St. James', both in London. Feb. 6, 1931, No. 3836. [Class 132 (ii).] The centre of gravity of the head of a steelshafted " iron " is situated nearer to the toe than is usual, the socket being reduced in size and weight and secured to the shaft by a metallic bond extending over the whole surface of contact between the two parts. The socket is so shaped that it becomes progressively lighter and weaker in an upward direction and is preferably secured to the shaft by solder. As shown in Fig. 1, the socket 3 tapers upwardly and has its weight further reduced by holes 9. Recesses 13 formed towards the heel of the club are filled with aluminium or other light metal. In a modification, Fig. 3, the socket 23 is reduced in weight by V-notches 24 and holes 29. In a further modification, Fig. 4, the socket 33 is formed as a helix or provided with helical grooves of constant or varying pitch, while a recess 34 is provided towards the heel of the club head.
