Abstract

228,650. Forbes, A. Nov. 14, 1923. Rackets; handles.-An all-metal racket for tennis, badminton, &c. comprises a frame 1 having its ends extended to form handle portions 2. A metal sleeve 12 fits over the extensions 2 to form a handle. The frame 1 is of such shape as to form a bed for spring members 4, over which the wire strings of the racket pass. The frame is preferably formed of an aluminium alloy and is of tubular square section amanged on edge to form a bed for the coiled ends 23 of the steel spring members 4, Fig. 2. In a modification, the spring members 4 are replaced by a series of short, conical sleeves 28, Fig. 7. mounted on a rubber core 29 and over which the strings pass. The outer end of the sleeve 12 is split and the free ends 14, Fig. 6, turned inwardly and provided with notched slots 15. By expanding or contracting the split end of the sleeve and bring- ing a rectangular locking member 16 into engagement with the various notches in the slots 15, the size of the handle may be varied. The end of the handle is bulged and covered by a rubber cap 21.
