[Class 122 (v)] A throttling device in the packing fluid supply conduit of a centrifugal pump stuffing-box comprises a slide valve f with a controlling edge g. After passing over the edge g which exerts a throttling action even in the open position of the valve, the fluid passes through borings h in the valve casing, cross grooves i in the base of the valve, and passage d into the stuffing-box.
