Abstract
Liquid fuel for burners or Diesel engines is obtained by emulsifying a minor proportion of water in oil fuel by means of casein or a carbohydrate colloid such as starch. Agents controlling combustion, e.g. boron compounds and/or sodium chloride, and naphthalene to reduce the viscosity may be added. In an example, a solution of \ba3/8\be lb. of borax and \ba3/8\be lb. of sodium chloride in 4 lb. of water is emulsified in 100 lb. of petroleum oil by \ba1/8\be lb. of starch. Emulsification is preferably effected by passage through 1 or more high-speed attrition mills. Specifications 408,951, 433,348, and 434,180 are referred to.
