Abstract
433,681. Wireless signalling. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP MACHINERIEEN - EN APPARATEN FABRIEKEN MEAF, 30, Croeselaan, Utrecht, Holland. March 4, 1935, No. 6773. Convention date, March 7, 1934. [Class 40 (v)] Relates to low-loss couplings between transmission-lines carrying ultra high-frequency currents, as used in short-wave wireless. Fig. 1 shows a right-angled junction between a "closed" line comprising two concentric conductors 1, 2 and an " open line comprising two " strip " or wire conductors 3, 4, the juncture being surrounded by a cylindrical screen 6 to prevent local radiation. The degree of coupling is adjusted by varying the distance to which the end 5 of the conductor 17 extends into the field between the two conductors 3, 4. Fig. 3 shows the coupling applied to a high-frequency valve 7 feeding two dipole aerials 8 located at the focal point of parabolic reflectors 9. The coupling is adjusted by means of a screw 14 which varies the distance apart of the two strip conductors 3, 4 into which the central conductor 5 from the valve protrudes. The valve is of the type described in Specifications 427,528 and 429,863.
