Abstract

433,679. Valves. MAGGENTI, A. L., 602, Filbert Street, San Francisco, U.S.A. March 14, 1934, No. 5653/35. Convention date, March 17, 1933. Divided out of 428,722. [Class 135] [See also Group XVII] A tap for metal containers comprises a bayonet 15 sharpened on both edges for cutting a circular hole into which a threaded part 14 of a body 10 screws, a rubber &c. gasket 12 ensuring a tight joint. A spout 13 and vent hole 16 are provided opposite to each other on the body 10, a cylindrical valve member 17 held by a set-screw 18 and a groove 19, and actuated by a handle 20, serving to open and close the spout and to move a ball 26 into and away from the vent by means of a cam groove 25. A vent passage 24 communicates with the interior of the container. If the container itself is provided with a vent, an additional turning of the valve will re-seat the ball in the tap vent so that liquid will not emerge through this. A bridge 28 extending over the aperture 21 in the valve prevents the ball from escaping from its groove. A washer 22 forms a tight joint between the valve cylinder and the body 10.
