433,427. Valve circuits for wireless reception; valve generating and modulating circuits. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL, 79, Boulevard Haussmann, Paris. Feb. 6, 1935, No. 3883. Convention date, Feb. 6, 1934. [Class 40 (v)] A short-wave oscillator comprises a magnetron with its oscillatory circuit coupled to the receiving aerial, and with an auxiliary self-modulating circuit whereby the oscillator may be employed for modulated transmission or for super-regenerative reception. The receiving circuit shown in the Figure comprises a tuned circuit 2 coupled to the aerial 4 and connected between the anodes of a split-anode magnetron 1, the mid-point of the circuit 2 being connected to the anode supply source through a transformer primary coil 7, the secondary of which is connected to phones 12. The anode supply voltage, the cathode supply 10, and the magnetic field supply 11 are so adjusted that the valve operates at or near a bend of the anode-current anode-voltage curve, preferably at the lower bend. The valve is adjusted to oscillate, and a quenching frequency is supplied to its anode circuit, this quenching frequency being generated by the magnetron circuit by virtue of a series resistance 16 in its plate circuit, and a shunt condenser 15. For telegraphic transmission, the circuit 15, 16 produces a tone frequency, which may be varied for signalling by varying the resistance 16.
