Abstract

432,823. Packeting-machines. J ACKSON, D., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd., 2, Evelyn Street, Deptford, London. May 3, 1934, No. 13384. [Class 94 (i)] To open the shells for shell and slide type packets, the shells are drawn from a stack in the direction of stacking by a suction device and are opened by lateral pressure. As shown the shells 1 are supported in magazine 2 by supports 3, 4. The support 4 moves laterally and as it moves towards support 3 the notch 9 engages the lowest shell and bows it upwards slightly. The suction device 5 then engages the lowest shell and sucks it into the space between the supports, the suction combining with the upward bowing to start the opening. The support 4 continues its motion towards support 3 exerting lateral pressure on the shell so that when the nozzle 5 leaves the shell on the bed of the machine, the cut away portion 14 of the wall 4 squares up the shell. The suction device 5 and the wall 4 are controlled by cams mounted on the same shaft. The support 3 is mounted on a spring plate 19 which allows the support to move outwardly as the shell is drawn downwardly by nozzle 5.
