432,041. Driving dynamos. VERTRIEBS-GES. DES LEIPZIGER LEICHTMETALL-WERK, 226, Kurfurstendamm, Berlin.-(Assignees of List, H.; 2, Herderstrasse, Steglitz, Berlin) Jan. 19, 1934, No. 1956. Convention date, Jan. 21, 1933. [Classes 35, 38 (ii), and 38 (iv)] Apparatus for producing high impulses of energy of short duration for spot welding, producing chemical reactions &c., consists of a high or medium frequency generator (50 to 100000 cycles per second, preferably from 300 to 10,000 cycles per second) fitted with a flywheel or the like. Fig. 1 shows an arrangement for welding comprising a rotor d and flywheel f driven by a motor a and supplied with exciting- current through slip-rings h; the stator windings m are connected to the primary o of a stepdown transformer, the secondary q of which is connected to the electrodes r. For heating- apparatus the work to be heated replaces the secondary of the transformer. Fig. 2 shows a transformer having three cores 1, 2, 3 linking the primary winding o and secondary windings q arranged in parallel. In a modification a single core is employed and the parallel windings q embrace separate branches of it. The exciting current of the generator may be controlled by time switches or otherwise and the moment of inertia of the flywheel may be adjustable.
